It's important to have a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut to improve digestion along with nutrient and vitamin absorption.
Eating a wide variety of healthy fruits and vegetables, getting enough fiber, and possibly taking probiotics (with a doctor's guidance) can help achieve this.
However, if "bad" bacteria overgrow and outnumber the "good" bacteria, the microbiome reaches a state of dysbiosis...
